| Products/Services: CalTrans 37-2 Slurry Surfacing
Slurry seal is an asphalt slurry mixture made from closely graded
fine aggregate, emulsified asphalt and water, all carefully calibrated and mixed to
form a mortar-like compound. This mixture is designed for easy and efficient spreading as
a sealer on streets, playgrounds, parking lots and driveways. Slurry seal fills all voids,
cracks and eroded areas and furnishes a 3/16" wearing course over the asphalt surface.
This heavy coat serves as a proven sealer and an extremely durable, non-skid surface. |

|
| Preparation |
The asphalt are will be thoroughly cleaned using a Power Sweeper
or Power Blowers to remove all dirt and loose particles. All weeds and vegetation
will be removed by any method necessary. Grinding, torching, scarifying or scraping
with a shovel will remove accumulations of oil and grease in car stalls that may
adversely affect the Slurry Seal bonding. An application of ëPoly-Oil Sealí will
be applied if necessary to any extreme areas, and then blotted with sand to ensure
the best chance of bonding between Slurry Seal and the heavily greased-soaked oil spot.
All drains, utility covers, monuments and manhole covers will be protected using duct
tape and building paper. |
|
|
| Application |
Slurry Seal will be applied with trucks mounted with continuous mixing machines.
These trucks are large and not easily maneuvered around in tight areas. Please make sure all
vehicles are parked well of the work area. When applying Slurry Seal to small areas we will be
using hand squeegees and other tools.
Drying time for Slurry Seal is estimated at 3-6 hours or longer depending on weather conditions.
Please make sure everyone stays off the material until the barricades have been removed. |

| IMPORTANT NOTES! |
|
Please make sure all vehicles are off the property prior to the agreed upon start
time and not allowed back until barricades have been removed. Any cars still parked are the
responsibility of the owner and must be towed. Make sure the LANDSCAPE IRRIGATIONS IS TURNED OFF
at least 24 hours before and after Slurry Seal is applied. The material is sticky and can be tracked
into buildings, please make sure everyone affected obeys all signs and traffic controls.
Slurry Seal has an unfair reputation as a course, rough aggregate sealer that should only
be used on highways. There are finer types of Slurry Seal that work well when put down on the
right pavement conditions and with the right application. However, Slurry Seal is rougher and
thicker than Sealcoat and therefore, tends to show more ëcosmetic imperfectionsí such as power
steering marks. These subside in a couple of months. Other conditions include raveling (loose rocks
from the surface, that might come off during the first couple of weeks), ridges and squeegee marks
(all knead in with time), and discoloration (blends in after usage). These are superficial conditions
and most likely will not be apparent after the Slurry Seal ages. |

Slurry Seal is an asphalt slurry mixture made from a closely graded fine

PLEASE NOTE: slurry seal has earned a reputation as a low-cost, high quality, long wearing
application, however, it is sometime imitated by combining various other sealcoats with sand and
calling them ëSlurryí. |
