Products/Services: Petromat Overlay

The greatest source of damaging water in road/pavement structural sections is precipitation infiltration through the pavement. Most pavement do not have adequate drainage systems to quickly remove infiltrated water. Petromat fabric, when saturated with asphalt cement tack coat, becomes a moisture barrier in the pavement, minimizing surface water infiltration.

Petromat overlays extend the life of new asphalt concrete pavements and overlays. The petromat system consists of a non—woven polypropylene fabric which is field saturated with asphalt cement tack coat. When placed between pavement layers, the petromat system becomes an integral part of the roadway/pavement section, forming a barrier to water infiltration and absorbing stresses to reduce reflective and fatigue cracking of the new surface area.

The surface to receive the fabric will be cleaned of dirt, water and debris in accordance with the manufactures recommendation. We will apply Liquid Asphalt Binder at an approximate rate of 0.20 to 0.30 gallons per square yard of surface covered. The fabric will be placed avoiding wrinkles and allowing for a 1—3inch overlap.

Asphalt concrete will be installed in a single lift with a self—propelled paver. All edges will be tapered to the adjoining surface or contoured to meet a machine milled edge. All drains, utility covers, monuments and manhole covers will be raised as noted, or tapered to their existing grade.

American Asphalt will furnish equipment capable of producing the required compaction of 93%. The surface when completed will be smooth, dense, well bonded, and of uniform texture and appearance.

American Asphalt will provide sufficient cones, barricades and other devices to guide traffic, to protect the public and ensure a safe work zone.
